High school students, here is where you can help yourself develop your fundamental piano skills so that you can play and create music that you love. Everyone comes to class with different musical backgrounds, so start at your level and earn your color stripes as you go. Video lessons will be posted here before the start of school.

SAGE GREEN level 1: Know your Piano Geography of locating registers and note letters. Five finger playing technique with correct tone and articulation. Major Scales in C, G, D, A & E, and Major & Minor Chords & Arpeggios in the 5 keys listed. May play scales one hand at a time but must use correct fingering.

FERN GREEN level 2: Major Scales in F, C, G, D, A, E & B, using both hands with correct fingering, on a steady beat. All Major & Minor Chords & Arpeggios in the 7 keys listed. Plus, I IV V I progressions in the 7 keys listed.

SKY BLUE level 3: All 12 Major Scales. Plus, I IV V I progressions in all keys, root position, on block chords using half note durations.

SEA BLUE level 4: All 12 Major Scales with transition chords of Maj 7 to Dominant 7 and a bassline walkup to the new key. Plus I IV V vi- progressions in all keys, root position, playing block chords using simple rhythms in 2/4, 3/4 & 4/4 . Major / Minor chord inversions (root, 1st & 2nd inversion) in F, C, G, D, A, E, B. May use one hand at a time for inversions.

AMBER YELLOW level 5: All 12 Major Scales with transition chords w bassline & all Maj/Min chord inversions using both hands. All 12 Relative Minor scales (in natural minor). Minor 7 chords in all keys. Plus, i- iv- v- i- in all keys, using a variety of rhythms and percussive textures in 2/2, 2/4, 3/4/ 4/4 and 6/8, 9/8, 12/8 meters, in root position.

CALIFORNIA GOLD level 6: All 12 Major & Minor Scales using all three forms of minor, with transition chords. All Maj/Min chord inversions using both hands. Maj 7, Dom 7, and Minor 7 chords in all keys. Any Roman Numeral progression, using a variety of rhythmic ideas in even and uneven meters, using inversions for smooth chord voicing.
